John Ruttenberg and Len Berger began working in
the steel industry for a service center in 1966
and 1972, respectively. After eight
years, they decided to join forces and formed
Lombard Metals in February 1980. Eric
Berger began his career at Lombard Metals in
1981, after completing his degree at the
University of Maryland. In 1990, Eric
became a limited partner and then in 1999, an
equal partner. Today, John Ruttenberg and
Eric Berger continue to grow the business while
adapting to the changing economic environment.
Initially, Lombard Metals primarily handled
carbon steel products. As the company
grew, they included stainless, aluminum and
other specialty alloys.
In addition to
Lombard Metals core business of purchasing from
distributors, manufacturers, fabricators and
various other company types; Lombard Metals has
established excellent relationships with many
domestic steel mills and trading companies.
Today, Lombard Metals is one of the largest buyers of
excess prime, surplus,
secondary and salvage steel in the country.
Since Lombard Metals expertise is with large
quantity purchases; their financial means and
full service capabilities enable them to
purchase thousands of tons of steel per year.
